The complexity of natural products has always been recognized as an important driving force for the development of organic chemistry, by stimulating chemist’s creativity. It pushes synthetic chemists to discover new reactions and new strategies for their production. Our research projects deal with the total synthesis of natural products, and methodological developments with perspectives in total synthesis or medicinal chemistry. Bio-inspired strategies take a particular place in our synthetic and methodological approaches and we are keen to study reaction mechanisms. Our synthetic products are made available to biological collaborators for applied investigations in chemical biology or structural biology. Complexity, utility and biological interfaces are some of our motivations to synthesize compounds at Ecole Polytechnique.
